>> A drive from LA to New York without a single touch of the wheel. That's the pitch from Tesla, which has already pioneered partially self driving tech. But CEO Elon Musk Wednesday announcing that from now on, all Tesla vehicles will have the hardware built in so they can drive themselves.
00:00:19
It'll cost an extra eight grand for drivers who want to enable it once it's operational by late 2017, says Musk. Reuters tech editor Jonathan Weber says this positions Tesla well in the hottest race in Silicon Valley.>> He's promising to show that next year which is quite ambitious and if they can actually pull it off would put them probably well ahead of the competitors.
00:00:45
With Tesla there is always a question of the kind of the gap between what's promised and when it's delivered.>> The announcement comes as Tessa continues to grapple with reports of accidents, one of them fatal that took place while Teslas were cruising on autopilot at semi autonomous technology.
00:01:02
>> But Musk has maintained the tech makes the vehicle safer than having a human driver operate the vehicle alone. Still, it's not clear what regulatory roadblocks could keep self driving Teslas from hitting the roads.
