Privacy is a human right. It's a fundamental part of human rights, part of the universal declaration of human rights. And protecting the privacy of users, so when people are sending messages to their friends, to their loved ones, to their family, they want this to be private. There isn't a week that goes by without us hearing about information being stolen.

At the same time, there are governments all over the world that are spying on activists, people who are trying to expose abuses and corruption. Journalists, human rights defenders, and their messages need to be protected and these people need to be protected.
