>> President Donald Trump targeted Amazon on Friday, as he called for the U.S. Postal Service to hike prices on shipments to recoup costs. Trump tweeted that the Post Office is charging too little for delivery, allowing Amazon and others to profit. While the postal service becomes, quote, dumber and poorer, should be charging much more, he added.
McKinney Brice is reporting the story.>> Trump has had issues with Amazon in the past, he has had issues specifically with Jeff Bezos, who is the chief executive officer of Amazon and who also owns The Washington Post, which is a newspaper that Trump has repeatedly criticized in the past.
>> The U.S. Postal Service is an independent federal agency that does not directly receive tax dollars for operating expenses. It reported a net loss of $2.1 billion in the third quarter of 2017. It makes up a large part of the U.S. shipping industry, which includes private operators FedEx and UPS.
Representatives for the White House and Amazon were not immediately available for comment.
