eeding cars in South Los Angeles Sunday night. Part of a protest against the police shooting of an 18 year old black man. Streets blocked off and buildings vandalized over the death of local resident Carnell Snell Jr., killed Saturday afternoon after a car chase with police. The LAPD say Snell was in a suspected stolen vehicle with paper license plates, the chase ensuing after the driver didn't follow commands to stop.

Snell reportedly got out of the car and fled on foot. Officers followed him to a residence where he was shot and killed. Police says a hand gun was found at the scene, but did not say whose it was. Local media cited witnesses who say Snell had been running away with his hands raised in the air when he was shot.

Friends and family had gathered for a peaceful vigil Sunday night, Snell's initials written with candles before the protests erupted. An investigation is underway in what is the latest police involved shooting to stoke concerns about racial bias among law enforcement.
