>> Oscar winning writer and director Curtis Hanson has died. Paramedics found him at his Hollywood Hills home. According to police he died of natural causes. Hanson along with With Brian Helgeland won an Oscar in 1997 for Best Adopted Screenplay for LA Confidential. The film depicted the 50s Los Angeles underworld, adapted from the novel by James Elroy.

Hanson was also nominated for Best Director for the same movie. He followed up with the popular comedy Wonder Boys and went on to direct 8 Mile, starring rapper Eminem. Other films include the Hand that Rocks the Cradle, the River Wild and In Her Shoes. Hanson had retired in recent years due to Alzheimer's according to variety.com.
