>> Across Southeast Europe, patrols like this are becoming more common. But despite governments throwing up barriers to keep out migrants arriving via Turkey, the numbers are still creeping up as rougher seas lead more to try this Balkans route, instead of risking a Mediterranean crossing. This time last year, hundreds of thousands trekked up from Turkey across the Balkans, hoping to enter the European Union's passport-free Schengen zone, by crossing into Hungary.

And while the numbers are smaller this year, some 7,000 are currently stranded in camps throughout Serbia, and tensions are running high.>>

> Migrants have been here for a very long time. And they're very nervous, because they can't cross the border. The Hungarian army and police sent them back, sometimes using force, often.

So that's why it's so tense here in this center.>> The patrols, equipped with all-terrain vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and thermal vision equipment, range along the 285-mile boundary with Macedonia and Bulgaria. Hungarian officials are helping them, and they're set to be joined by Austrian and French reinforcements. Many refugees make repeated attempts to cross international borders, often with smugglers' help.

Only a trickle get across the fenced off border into Hungary. And as the country votes on Sunday, whether to accept migrant quotas imposed by the EU, there are fears the country will stop accepting migrants all together, leaving its neighbors outside the EU, the burden of caring for them.
