Protesters say this would increase anti-gay sentiment in the country.

>> Two, four, six, eight, equal rights!.>> We won't wait!>> In February 2017, Australian citizens will cast their ballots on whether to make same sex unions legal, a vote brought about by the Center Right coalition government. But those against it want gay marriage to be allowed without a plebiscite, arguing it would waste about $130 million.

The Center Left opposition Labour Party has argued against the public vote, and is expected to block it in Parliament next week with support from Independence and minor parties.
