e American University in Kabul under armed attack Wednesday with reports of one student killed and at least 14 injured so far. Reporter Hamid Shalizi is on the ground in Kabul.>> It was around 6:30 when a group of the attackers, they attacked the American university in Kabul, according to the Afghan Interior Ministry.
And they fought with the guards for more than an hour and Afghan governed forces were deployed there. And there are some unconfirmed reports that the gunman inside has taken some students hostage.>> An Afghan official telling Reuters that there are foreign professors along with hundreds of students. One of those students telling Reuters via telephone that he was trapped inside a classroom, and could hear gunfire.
Pictures emerging on Twitter showing a column of smoke, apparently rising from the campus. The attack comes only two weeks after two of the university's processors were kidnapped in Kabul. Taliban has been making advances in recent weeks, with the killing of a US soldier by a roadside bomb on Tuesday.
