The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the offensive so far has centered on the Kurdish YPG military group. Here, footage released by Turkey's army claims to show them seizing heavy artillery after expelling the fighters from a northern town. Focus on the Kurdish militia puts them at odds with the US, which sees Syrian Kurds as an ally in the fight against Islamic state.
