>> US troops arriving in Syria, their aim to stop tensions escalating between Turkish and Kurdish forces both with a common goal of defeating Islamic State. The US needs the various factions to focus on fighting the militants not each other. Turkey sees the US-backed Syrian militias as a threat.
The Americans' arrival in the northern city of Manbij, angering the Syrian president. In an interview with Chinese television, Assad said any foreign troops coming to Syria without our invitation are invaders. Adding he doesn't think it'll help in beating Islamic State, but indicating he does see scope for cooperation with President Trump.
The US-led coalition is backing a campaign by its Syrian allies too capture Raqqa, Islamic State the factory based in the country. Last week, the US announced that around 400 additional soldiers had been deployed to Syria, to prevent clashes. They'll also be on the ground to help Raqqa campaign.
