>> Emergency responders say that Thomas fire raging in Ventura County spread rapidly early Tuesday destroying land and buildings in it's path. Reuters photographer Mike Blake.>> Devastating Santa Ana winds have struck California once again causing major damage and a fire that started overnight and swept all the way into Ventura here.
Behind me you can see a number of homes destroyed. There are in the hundreds of homes destroyed here.>> The current fire size now is about forty-five thousand acres and at least 150 structures are lost.>> Information>> Among those structures was the Vista Del Mar Hospital.>> This place helped a lot of people in this area, it sucks.
Don't know what they're gonna do without it. Hopefully they rebuild it. It's just very sad seeing it like this.>> Fanned by 70 mile an hour winds the blaze erupted Monday evening. By Tuesday, thick black smoke blanketed the Southern California sky. Some 27,000 people have already been evacuated.
One person was reportedly killed fleeing the blaze. And officials say more evacuations are likely.>> There's still a high possibility that we will be evacuating additional areas. And so we will be providing information to the residents throughout the day.>> With high winds and low humidity, authorities say conditions are ideal for the fire.
Conditions that are expected to continue in the days ahead.
