>> As Hillary Clinton takes heat over the dealings of the Clinton Foundation, a review by Reuters sheds new light on Bill Clinton's globetrotting for the charity while she was Secretary of State. With emails showing the foundation frequently asked state to vet his meetings with an array of world leaders.

Some of them out of favor with the US. Political correspondent Emily Stevenson.>> The foundation went to the State Department frequently while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State to vet meetings, speeches, appearances, that Bill Clinton was doing as head of the foundation. The foundation wanted to make sure that Bill Clinton was not going to accidentally cause some sort of incident by meeting with some person that the State Department had problems with.

>> In one instance in 2009, the Clinton Foundation reaching out to the State Department about Bill Clinton possibly meeting with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad as Assad was trying to improve relations with the West.>> The e-mails don't show the State Department saying, don't go, but the trip didn't happen.

This contact goes beyond what a typical ex-president would be doing. But the Clinton Foundation folks say that this was in an abundance of caution. And the State Department people say the same.>> But the email suggests that vetting didn't always go as planned.>> In another instance that we found in these emails, the Clinton Foundation told the State Department that without their knowledge, the daughter of the president of Uzbekistan had been invited to participate in a fund raiser that Bill Clinton was participating in Monaco.

And they said, we know this might cause problems for some people. She seems to have had her hands in a lot of different businesses. Had some sort of music career. From news coverage at the time and actually photos that are available online, they were at the same event, she later came under investigation for money laundering and some other things.

>> Stephenson says the new emails may give Clinton's detractors more ammunition.>> Hillary Clinton is totally unfit.>> Critics of the Clinton's and the Clinton Foundation are likely to see more evidence of the murky relationship between the foundation and the State Department here. Trump says on the campaign trail that it's not clear where the State Department ends and the Clinton Foundation begins, and the extent of this contact probably will feed into those criticisms.
