>> The National Weather Service issuing a hurricane warning for Hawaii's big island, as Madeline, now a major hurricane, approaches. Storms expected to impact the island Wednesday afternoon. And following on its heals is another hurricane, Lester. Forecasters expect some weakening of that storm, which is expected to impact the area on Friday.
If either hits, it would be the first hurricane to make land fall in Hawaii's big island since 1949. And back on the mainland,a hurricane watch is in effect for parts of Florida as a tropical depression barrels towards the state. Flooding, storm surge, fierce winds, and tornadoes were all threats to the region which could begin feeling the storm late on Wednesday.
Reuters correspondent, Letitia Stein, is in Miami.>> Officials in Florida have activated today to a preparation level, the state's emergency operation command center. Communities across the state but particularly on the gulf coast, are getting ready to hand out sand bags, place out barricades for localized flooding.>> Forecasters warn the system could dump up to 15 inches of rain in some areas by Friday ahead of the Labor Day weekend.
