nfire erupting in Istanbul as an attempted coup continues into the night in Turkey. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said a group within Turkey's military is attempting to overthrow the government. But Turkish military's saying they have already seized control. A statement read on Turkish State TV on the orders of the military said that martial law has been imposed across Turkey and a curfew declared as the country was now being run by a, quote, Peace Council.

The military saying freedom and secular rule of law was paramount and that a new constitution would be prepared soon. War planes and helicopters roared over the capital Oncura. Airports were shut, access to Internet social media sites was cut off and troops sealed off the two bridges over the

Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan speaking to a CNN Turk reporter via cell phone, urged people to take to the streets to protest the attempted coup, vowing that they would be over with any quote short time and said those responsible would pay a heavy price in the courts.
