>> The US government on Friday charging a Russian national. In a plot to conduct information warfare to influence next month's congressional elections. The criminal complaint, unsealed on Friday, alleges 44 year old Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova. Used social media to raise suspicions of candidates and of the US political system.
Khusyaynova faces one count of conspiracy to defraud the US. She's the first individual to be indicted for attempting to interfere in the 2018 race. The complaint identified Khusyaynova as a chief accountant for a project funded by Russian oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin. Whose companies were indicted in February. Along with 13 individuals by special counsel Robert Mueller for allegedly tampering the 2016 Presidential race.
Prigozhin, who is under US sanctions, is often referred to as Putin's cook. Because his catering business organizes banquets for Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior political figures. The new case is not being handled by Mueller, because activities related to the 2018 race are not part of Mueller's duties.
>> Had nothing to do with my campaign.>> US intelligence agencies say Russia meddled in 2016 to boost Trump's chances. Trump and the Kremlin have both denied they worked together to win the election.>> I've seen no collusion whatsoever.
