Commonwealth Virginia's capital is in a state of turmoil Monday as embattled democratic governor Ralph Northam still refuses to resign despite repeated calls from his party to do so north and began the day by huddling with his cabinet and emerge clinging to power saying he needed more time he's embroiled in controversy over a racially insensitive photo from his nineteen eighty four a medical school yearbook page Virginia state house speaker Kurt **** among those calling for north hymns resignation was non committal when asked by a reporter whether state lawmakers would try to force North them out I think there's a rifle hesitation about removal from office because obviously you have to consider that to some degree your paternal watching calls for his resignation came after the picture went public last week in it one person is in black face standing next to someone in a cook Klux Klan costume at a party this was not my picture I was not in that costume either %HESITATION it's black faced or is K. K. %HESITATION and it's it's not me that's in stark contrast to what he admitted twenty four hours prior that he was in fact in the photo stopping short of saying which person with him if North them vacates has office he would be replaced by Virginia's lieutenant governor Justin Fairfax Fairfax himself woke up to controversy Monday after a right wing media site published an unsubstantiated report of sexual assault against him something his communications director quickly labeled as false north him was elected as governor in twenty seventeen his struggle to remain in office is complicated by his admission that he did once dress up in black face to imitate Michael Jackson for a dance contest around the same time the controversial yearbook photo was published
