>> This is the seat of power for Iraqi Kurdistan's regional government, streaked with blood and riddled with bullet holes. Suspected Islamic State gunmen stormed the building in Erbil just before 8 AM.
Screaming allahu ackbar, god is greatest, at least four gunmen armed with pistols, AK-47 rifles, and hand grenades shot their way into the building. They asked the women to leave and kept the men inside. One government worker was killed and two policemen wounded. In Erbil's busy commercial district, snipers opened fire at the militants from a nearby building.
Iraq announced in December that it had defeated Islamic State. Attacks like these are rare in Erbil, and will be a worrying sign that with the loss of their territory, the group is switching to guerilla style tactics.
