>> This white container truck has caused outrage across Mexico. Inside the trailer are dozens of bodies, reportedly victims of the country's drug war. The bloodshed has been so severe that authorities in Jalisco state in western Mexico have run out of space to store bodies and have piled them into this mobile morgue.
Reuters correspondent Daina Beth Solomon has more details.>> Residents in and around Mexico's second largest city of Guadalajara have been complaining for days about a refrigerated truck holding around 150 dead bodies. It's been parked near their homes and in empty lots. They're worried about health hazards and they just want officials to get it out.
>> Well, it's really bad because it affects our children. It smells really bad. Soon, it's going to start smelling worse. And the flies land on the food.>> Like other parts of Mexico, Jalisco is suffering from a crime wave caused by drug cartels.>> The bodies have not been claimed and don't fit in to any of the local morgues.
Which is a symbol of just how bad the drug violence in Mexico has become in recent years. Jalisco, is the home base for the Jalisco New Generation cartel, which is widely considered one of the most notorious and powerful in Mexico.>> Following complaints, authorities moved the trailer to a warehouse in Guadalajara this week.
And by Tuesday, Jalisco's governor had fired the state morgue director over the scandal.>> Officials in Jalisco have apologized and say they won't stand for this kind of indifference or laziness. They say they're at work to finish a new morgue in the next month and a half, which will have capacity for 700 bodies.
>> Mexico's homicide rate hit a record high in 2017, when nearly 30,000 murders were reported, many at the hands of rival drug gangs that, amid a government crackdown, have splintered into smaller, more bloodthirsty groups.
