US musician, Chris Cornell, dead at the age of 52. The Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman dying late Wednesday in his hotel bathroom following a performance in Detroit. The Wayne County Medical Examiner saying Cornell died of suicide by hanging. Cornell was a key figure to emerge out of the Seattle grunge scene, forming Soundgarden in 1984.
The band was arguably the first in the area to sign with a major label, two years before Nirvana's Nevermind was released. Cornell's distinctive voice, he had a four octave range, propelled a string of rock radio smashes, including Spoonman and Black Hole Sun, leading the band to two Grammy awards in 1994.
In a statement, his family thanked fans for their continuous love and loyalty.
