>> The protests in downtown St. Louis resumed peacefully Monday morning. Hundreds marching arm-in-arm toward city hall, to express their anger at last week’s acquittal of former police officer, Jason Stockley, in the shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith in 2011.
t it was a different story just hours earlier, when for the third night in a row, peaceful protests gave way to violence.
Police fought running battles with protesters, windows were smashed, trash cans were overturned, furniture was thrown. More than 80 people were arrested. Some officers were treated by firefighters after being doused by an unknown liquid. But by first light Monday morning, calm had returned. Police saying they'll do all they can to ensure that the protests remain peaceful.
