>> A clearer picture is emerging of the Orlando shooter. I'm Julia Edwards, Justice Department reporter for Reuters. More details are emerging about Omar Mateen, the gunman in the Orlando nightclub shooting that claimed 49 lives. FBI Director, James Comey said on Monday to reporters that on the night of the shooting, in calls to the 911 dispatcher, Mateen said that he supported the Islamic State, as well as Al-Nusra Front.

>> There are strong indications of radicalization by this killer. He also said that he was a member of Hezbollah, which is a Shia terrorist organization that is a bitter enemy of the so called Islamic State.>> They also had said that he had a family connection to al-Qaeda, which turned out not to be true.

These comments create someone who seems very conflicted, or perhaps uninformed about the ideologies behind these groups as many of them are conflicting and are actually enemies on the battlefield.>> And he was obviously disturbed.>> We also know from comments from his ex wife that he had exhibited abuse.

>> A few months after we were married I saw his instability, and I saw that he was bipolar and he would get mad out of nowhere. That's when I started worrying about my safety and then after a few months he started abusing me.>> Director Comey said that at one point, he said that he wished that his house would be ambushed so that his wife would be assaulted and he would go down as a martyr.

It's painting a picture of someone who was clearly radicalized, Comey believes at least in part online. And it's also painting a picture of someone who may have been mentally disturbed and shown some signs of bigotry. A coworker said that he didn't want to work with Mateen because of his bigoted comments.

And of course we know that Mateen targeted an LGBT nightclub.
