e so-called Holiday Fire broke out Friday night in a building on the Santa Barbara County coast. Powerful winds quickly spread the blaze to nearby brush that had been left dry by record-setting heat. Before the night was over, the fire had roared through some 20 homes and threatened dozens more, forcing at least 2,200 people to flee.
By 1 AM, county officials had declared a local emergency and firefighters from nearby Los Angeles County had pitched in to help. It's the latest of dozens of fires that have broken out across the western United States in recent weeks.>> It's fire season, pretty much everyday in California these days.
>> Killing one person in Northern California. So far, this year fires have scorch nearly three million acres. In Southern California, the hot dry conditions are expected to continue through the weekend.
