>> The moment a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand just after midnight on Monday caught on a mobile phone. Emergency services have reported injuries but no deaths. But it did cause a tsunami, forcing thousands of people to flee their coastal homes for higher grounds. And they warn there could be bigger waves to come, perhaps as high as five meters.

unami sirens rend the air. The epicenter with south islands about 90 kilometers north of Christ Church where a 2011 quake killed 185 people. Most of New Zealand could feel the quake and its aftershocks. Helicopters carrying medical and rescue personnel are heading for the stricken area where widespread damage has been reported.
