Following a five year investigation, Britain's serious fraud office saying charges against the bank, relate to payments made to Qatari investors. And a $3 billion loan facility made to the wealthy Gulf state.
All during one of the most troubled periods in financial history. Making it the first time for criminal charges to be filed against a bank and its top brass in the United Kingdom. Former CEO John Varley, the highest profile of the four defendants, due to appear in court on July 3rd.
