>> Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn is reportedly now under investigation in an alleged plot to kidnap a Muslim cleric and take him to Turkey for a payday in the millions of dollars. The Wall Street Journal on Friday reported Flynn and his son would have received up to $15 million for forcibly removing exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen from his US home and delivering him to the government in Ankara.
Turkey blames Gülen for a failed coup in July, 2016, and has demanded his extradition. The Journal reported FBI agents have asked at least four people about a December meeting in New York where Flynn and Turkish operatives may have discussed removing Gulen. Reuters has not been able to independently confirm the report.
Lawyers for Flynn issued a statement calling the allegations outrageous and false. Flynn is already a central figure in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 race. He was fired by Trump in February for lying about his contacts with Russia after just 24 days in the job.
