>> With Texas and Louisiana still reeling from the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey, the US East Coast now bracing for Hurricane Irma. Upgraded Tuesday to a Category 5 storm, currently churning over the Caribbean. Winds as high as 175 miles an hour reported. A state of emergency declared in Puerto Rico and Florida, with residents stocking up on vital supplies.
>> Wood, screws, drill bits, batteries.>> Irma expected to move northwest through the Caribbean Islands this week, making landfall in Florida by Sunday. Georgia and the Carolinas also potential targets.>> We're not yet at the height of hurricane season. And if people haven't taken the steps to get prepared yet, we're encouraging them to take those steps today.
>> Florida governor Rick Scott tweeting he has spoken to President Trump, who offered the full resources of the Federal Government during storm preparations. The Leeward Islands and the US and British Virgin Islands, among the first expected to feel Irma's effects. Schools are shuttered, and flights to the region are cancelled.
