that devastating amtrak crash this week intensifying the battle of a government funding for the passenger rail service , republican house majority leader john boehner's lashing out thursday and those trying to connect tuesday's deadly amtrak crash to a lack of government funding , are you really going to ask such a stupid question , well i obviously have brought about funding , some of that the train was gone twice the speed limit that rebuke coming one day after a republican led house committee rejected calls to double its annual check to amtrak rotors washington correspondent patrick rucker so enjoy great now relies on about one point four billion dollar , and republicans who control the house that we will make that number even though we're going to take away about a quarter of a billion dollars cost conscious republicans have little reason to budge on the budget , since the rail service which is partly funded by the government hasn't turned a profit in its forty year history and is mostly popular in democratic states but supporters me now find a more sympathetic it with the public and some pretty powerful people for an advocate of amtrak is awful is this tragedy was you have now got the attention with this this is the corridor between washington and new york you had a lot of prominent people %HESITATION lawmakers that rely on that on that service %HESITATION business people that rely on that service but naysayers point to early findings blaming speed and not infrastructure decay for the crash as a portlet amtrak does not need more money buddies to better spend the money , it already gets , congress has already mandated a safety update aimed at preventing speed related accidents be in place , by the end of the year
