Kennedy has portrayed himself as a Utah local and Romney as an outsider, who moved to the state after his failed 2012 presidential campaign. Despite that, President Trump endorsed Romney on Twitter in February, even though the two haven't always seen eye-to-eye, frequently trading vicious insults over Twitter during the last few years.
