>> A deadly attack at the heart of President Bashar al-Assad's power base. Bomb blasts reportedly killing more than 120 people in the Syrian coastal cities of Jableh and Tartus. According to monitors, at least five suicide attacks and two car bombs struck. This, the devastation they wrought. Islamic state has claimed responsibility.
Syrian media confirmed the attacks, but gave a lower loss of life. Tartous is home to a Russian navel base. This the first such attack to get so close. The saying it was concerned by the blasts, and that they underscored the need for peace talks. But those efforts have been stalled for some time.
Whilst the international community struggles to revive them, it seems Syria is paying the price with more bloodshed.
