>> And we're going to continue to fight for every last vote.>> Bernie Sanders standing firm but under rising pressure Wednesday over his supporters' violent behavior at the Nevada state convention last weekend. Sanders's defiant response opening up a massive rupture in the Democratic ranks that could play out through the general election.
00:00:19
>> This is a test of leadership.>> Party leaders like Senator Harry Reid infuriated that Sanders, though condemning the thrown chairs, death threats, and other violence, at the same time seems to be excusing it, saying he understands why his supporters are angry. Alana Wise is on the story.
00:00:36
>> So what we saw in Nevada is kind of just a spillover of the broader feeling among many Sanders supporters. They feel cheated, they feel that the system has been rigged, and that's when things get out of control. Instead of offering an apology for what had happened, Sanders said that he simply condemned the violence while saying that he understood the frustrations that his supporters felt at the convention.
00:00:54
So this was upsetting to Democratic leadership, because they wanted him to come out and outwardly condemn the violence and apologize for what had happened.>> The sudden upheaval, coming amid a brutal battle for the nomination with Hillary Clinton, leaves Sanders and the party locked in a standoff, with several states still left to vote, and with polls suggesting the whole episode may play right into the hands of Donald Trump.
00:01:15
>> So the Democratic Party at this point is kind of its own enemy. Bernie Sanders has managed to rope in a number of supporters, both Democratic and Independent voters. And a number of those voters have said that if it comes down to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in fall, they will vote for Donald Trump.
00:01:29
So what the Democrats have to do now is find a way to convince these voters that would otherwise go to the other side to bring them back inside and unify the party. The big worry now, that Nevada could be just a first taste of an even bigger showdown between Clinton and Sanders supporters at the party's national convention in Philadelphia this July.
