President Donald Trump on Thursday, seeming to try to defend some perplexing remarks he made at a fundraiser about trade with Canada. Tweeting, we do have a Trade Deficit with Canada, as we do with almost all countries (some of them massive). There's one problem with this statement, the US has a trade surplus with Canada.
The website of the US trade representative says so, right here. Trump's tweet coming after the Washington Post reported that the president boasted to donors in Missouri that he had just assumed a deficit existed and insisted on it in a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. The newspaper quoted the president as saying, he told Trudeau that the US ran a deficit with Canada despite not knowing whether or not that was the case.
>> Trade deficit, trade deficit, trade deficit, trade deficit, trade deficit>> Donald Trump has repeatedly described US trade deficits as evidence of an unfair system in world trade.>> Thank you, right? Thank you, Donald.>> Yeah.
