>> Venezuela's government claims to have suppressed a military rebellion by these men who call themselves the 41st armored brigade and released this video calling for a broad uprising against President Nicolas Maduro.>> We clarify that this is not a coup. This is a civic, a military action to restore constitutional order.
But even more, to save the country from total destruction, to stop the murders of our youth and relatives.>> One witness says they heard gunshots before dawn near the city of Valencia, in the area of a military base. Officials have since said the situation has been brought under control, making arrests, and labeling the group as terrorists.
The uprising comes days after President Maduro formed a legislative superbody. Which has been internationally condemned as a power grab. At its first sitting on Saturday the new constituency assembly removed the chief prosecutor from her post and ordered her to stand trial. Luisa Ortega was Maduro's main challenger. From within the Berlin Socialist Movement since the start of opposition protest in April.
Since then more than 120 people have been killed in unrest. In the first rebellion since the Legislative Super Body came into power. Maduro has sent a clear message. The Turney defiance will be swiftly quashed.
