>> The mysterious case of the missing Chinese billionaire has just taken a darker turn. Sources say Xiao Jianhua was smuggled out of a Hong Kong hotel in a wheelchair in the early hours of January 27th, head covered and potentially unconscious. His disappearance last month raised fears of a Hong Kong status as an independent judicial entity of China.
A statement issued in Xiao's name saying that he had not been abducted was not enough to quell fears according to Reuters Hong Kong deputy bureau chief James Pomfret.>> There was a general sense of unease amongst some of the business people that we spoke to. They do feel, being very savvy business people, and they've got a lot to lose if they're not prudent with their wealth.
>> CCTV footage showing Jianhua at the mainland China on the very same day he disappeared, sparking fears he may be a target of Xi Jinping's crackdown on corruption, which could have serious consequences on the appeal of Hong Kong as a business hub.>> Capital flight is one risk.
Another potential risk is just generally in the future, there's less confidence in Hong Kong's robustness as a international financial center. It's seen the preeminent sort of bridge to China now because it's got a strong rule of law.>> Just hours after US President Donald Trump agreed to back the One China Policy, which ties the One to China, signs that China could not be respecting the one country, two systems framework.
