>> An arrest has been made in last summer sexual assault and murder of Karina Vetrano. After months of investigating, police say they have found the man suspected of killing the 30-year old who went out for a jog along an isolated path in Queens, New York.>> Yesterday evening, Chanel Lewis, a 20-year old male, who resides at East New York, Brooklyn.
Was taken into custody in connection with the August 2, 2016 murder of Karina Vetrano in Howard Beach, Queens.>> Her father, a retired New York firefighter, was with detectives when her beaten body was found last August.>> But somebody knows something.>> He had pleaded with the public to help find the killer.
And now, DNA evidence found on Karina's body has linked Lewis to the crime.>> We went to his house, and you have to remember we have had a lot of leads in this case. And each one was vetted painstakingly by detectives. Lewis was interviewed by detectives and made detailed incriminating statements and admissions.
Charges are now pending.>> Vetrano's killing and months long investigation had drawn intense media attention and stirred anxiety in the city where crime rates had fallen.
