members of the United auto workers are ready to walk off the job DR Chrysler the union on Tuesday informing the smallest of Detroit's big three to meet a deadline by eleven fifty nine PM Wednesday or else face a worker's strike , it's not yet clear how big the work stoppage will be and a big embarrassment for union leadership as members last week overwhelmingly said no to a four year tentative contract new hires better with the company's two tiered salary that means they get paid at worst almost ten dollars an hour less than an older higher doing the same job fiat Chrysler not to rush to change that it's benefited greatly by that pay differential since forty five percent of the factory work horse falls into the cheaper tier meaning its labor costs are lower than bigger rivals Ford and General Motors the UAW has been staged a major strike in decades
