Choi Soon-sil's accused of using her relationship with President Park Geun-hye for financial gain, despite having no security clearance. On Sunday, flying back to Seoul, after riding out the scandal's early days in Germany.
Park admitted she'd illegally given Choi early access to speech drafts. And local media say her close ties with Park help donate millions of dollars for her charities. Choi has a long and mucky relationship with President Park. She's the daughter of shadowy religious cult leader Choi Tae-min, who served as Park's mentor after her mother was killed by North Korean assassins.
And Park began serving as de facto First Lady by her father's side. The scandal has already claimed the jobs of five presidential staff, who resigned on Sunday. Just a day after thousands of angry protesters rallied in downtown Seoul demanding President Park's resignation. Saying she had betrayed public trust and has lost a mandate to lead the country.
