According to a document seen by Reuters, the safe zones would be for displaced Syrian nationals to quote, await firm resettlement such as repatriation or potential third country resettlement. The creation of safe zones would mark a major departure from former President Obama's cautious approach. The document gave no details on what would constitute a safe zone, where they might be set up, and who would defend them.
It would require increased US or Allied airpower if Trump chooses to go through with it, and would raise questions about how to avoid confrontation with Russian forces in Syria, Supporting Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad.>> I call it extreme vetting, right?>> Trump's call for a safe zone becoming part of a larger directive expected to include a temporary ban on refugees to the US.
Reuter's reporter Julia Ainsley, who broke the story, has seen a draft of the expected order.>> He aims to completely shut down the refugee program, meaning refugees coming from all countries. For four months, until he can be sure that he knows what countries give the United States enough information in order for the refugees applying for those countries to be in his words, extremely vetted.
