Only two others were rescued the day before. This man, one of the lucky ones. Rescue efforts continuing through their second night.

The crush of snow initially hampered rescue efforts, up to 5 meters that's over sixteen feet, have fallen there in recent days.

Paths to the scene had to be cut through drifts. Some responders had to arrive by helicopter, the rescuers' base camp in a town some ten kilometers away. It took 11 hours for the first team to arrive. A court investigation now opening among accusations that response was too slow.
