>> A day-long hostage standoff at Delaware's largest state prison ending early Thursday when police stormed the complex, finding one corrections officer dead and rescuing another who has been hospitalized. Inmates of the James T Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna had reportedly held four prison guards, and possibly some prisoners, captive during an uprising they said was in response to policies of President Trump.
Demanding prison education and rehabilitation in a phone call made Wednesday to Delaware's News Journal. As a result of the revolt, prisons across Delaware went into lockdown. Dozens of inmates and two prison guards in Smyrna were released as the situation progressed. Delaware Governor John Carney saying in a statement Thursday, this was a long and agonizing situation.
Our priority now will be to determine what happened and how this happened, and make whatever changes are necessary to ensure nothing like it ever happens again
