>> Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin El Chapo Guzman has got a one-way ticket to New York. The Mexican government confirming Thursday just a day before Donald Trump moves into the White House that the notorious narco trafficker has been extradited from a prison in Northern Mexico to the US.>> This is one of the fastest extraditions that Mexico has ever undertaken and one of the top narcos.
And people did say, of course, that they were skeptical that it would ever happen. This has been in the works for some time. Mexico always said that it would hand over El Chapo. But for the fact that it's happened one day before Trump takes over and in Obama's last day, kinda gave Mexico the ability to say that it was for Obama and for Trump.
What we heard from Mexican officials so far is that, they want to thank Obama for supporting going after El Chapo but also, an act of good will towards Trump to say all the intelligence this guy have is now in your hand. Here we can do with it and how can we work this site together going forward.
>> El Chapo is infamous for twice escaping Mexican prison in 2015 he broke out of a maximum security prison through a mile long tunnel under his jail cell and it took Mexican police six months to catch him. Since his recapture, he's been moved around several times to prevent him from getting too familiar and planning another escape.
The initial deal for extraditing El Chapo came in May last year but with a caveat that the US had to guarantee prosecutors wouldn't seek the death penalty.
