>> Regulation they have to not->> The outcry surrounding President Donald Trump's refugee ban throwing a harsh spotlight on a rising star in his inner circle, Steven Miller a former campaign aide now turned White House Senior Advisor. Just 31 years old, Miller plaid a key role in crafting the bombshell orders that touched off protests across the country.
A former top aide to Senator Jeff Sessions, Trump's nominee for attorney general, Miller is a close ally of Trump's chief strategist, Steve Bannon, who is himself a lightning rod for his ties to white nationalists. Reporter Ginger Gibson knows Miller from the campaign trail and from her days covering Capitol Hill.
>> He has taken a very hard line position against immigration. He is more of an ideologue than many of the other advisors.>> It only makes sense that when you're establishing new vetting procedures that you try to minimize the burden by reducing migration from the most dangerous areas identified by the administration.
>> He served as a warmup act for Donald Trump on the campaign trail,>> Often getting the crowd riled up, his speeches often detailed crimes that were allegedly committed by undocumented immigrants. He went on to be Trump's chief speech writer, penning the speech that we heard Donald Trump deliver at the Republican National Convention.
>> We must choose To believe in America.>> And when Trump was elected became the chief legislative policy person for the Trump Whitehouse.>> Merely defending the order on CBS's morning show calling it enormously successful despite the uproar.>> Well, I think anytime you do anything hugely successful The challenges of failed orthodoxy, you're gonna see protests.
In fact, if nobody's disagreeing with what you're doing, then you're probably not doing anything that really matters in the scheme of things.>> Donald Trump is not working from the normal Republican playbook. It's Miller and Bening who are crafting these proposals in the actual policy.>> The ensuing detentions and chaos gripping airports in the United States in abroad, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough blasted Miller for taking what he called- A go it alone stand on the Executive Order without alerting federal agencies.
>> A number of Republicans are concerned about the immigration Executive Orders and knowing that Miller and Bannon helped to write these, they fear that Trump is being encouraged to take steps that they think go beyond what is appropriate.>> The order denies entry for 90 days to people from seven majority Muslim countries.
Including Iran, Iraq and Yemen. It also bans nearly all refugees for 120 days and refugees from Syria indefinitely.
