>> 29-year old sheriff's deputy, Zackari Parrish, was killed by a gunman when authorities responded to a disturbance call in a suburb outside of Denver, Sunday morning. The suspect, who was known to authorities, was also fatally shot. Parrish and three other deputies responded to a call of shots fired around 5 AM local time at Copper Canyon Apartments in Highlands Ranch, about 20 miles south of Denver.

>> I do know that all of them were shot very, very quickly, and they all went down almost within seconds of each other. So it was more of an ambush type of attack on our officers. He knew we were coming.>> Another officer later came to the scene and was shot, leaving four officers and two civilians injured by the gunman.

A code red was issued by the Sheriff's Office, instructing residents to shelter and place and avoid windows. Officials say the suspect was carrying a rifle. Parrish, who is survived by his wife and two children, had worked at the Sheriff's Office for only seven months.
