>> A potential thawing relations between North and South Korea. After 11 hours of discussion, the first talks since December 2015. The pair released a joint statement announcing they have agreed on negotiations to resolve problems as well as military talks aimed at averting accidental conflict. But Pyongyang says it will refuse to discuss it's nuclear weapons.
Regarding the nuclear issue, our strategic weapons, including atomic bomb, hydrogen bomb and intercontinental ballistic missiles are only aimed at the United States, not our brethren.>> The hotly anticipated meeting began after a North Korean Delegation strode across the world's most heavily militarized border into the South. Crossing it for the first time in more than two years.
Soul and Pyongyang kicked off the formalities with an optimistic outlook on the upcoming winter Olympics said to be held just kilometers away from the border next month. North Korea has confirmed it will send a delegation to the games including high ranking officials and athletes. Along with the country famous cheering squad.
Which is been a huge hit in the south in the rare past appearances. During discussions, the south unification ministries, have soled asked his neighbor to hold hostile acts that stoke tension on the peninsula. And in return the North agreed that peace should be guaranteed in the region. South Korea have also proposed the reunion of family members in time for February's Luna New Year holiday, but there was no mention of that in the joint statement.
