>> Shot him?>> We were arguing and I shot him in the head, and he's not breathing anymore.>> This is audio from a prank 911 call, where the caller said he had killed his father and was holding hostages. It led to a standoff with police in Wichita, Kansas.
>> Cuz I already poured gasoline all over the house, I might just set it on fire.>> Okay, well we don't
]>> But police say another man, an innocent, unarmed, 28-year-old named Andrew Finch, was fatally shot when they surrounded a house on Thursday evening.>> Shots fired, one down at the front.
>> The officer on the north side of the street, he feared the male had just pulled a weapon from his waistband, retrieved a gun, and was in the process of pointing it at the officers to the east. Fearing for those officers' safety, the officer on the north side fired one round, striking the male.
Officers did not locate any deceased person, any injured person, or any hostages. We believe this incident is a case of swatting, which is the act of deceiving emergency services into sending a police response to another person's address.>> 25-year-old Tyler Barriss has been arrested in connection with the hoax.
Wichita police say the, quote, irresponsible actions of a prankster led to an innocent man's death. But the victim’s mother says police are culpable. An investigation is underway.
