The cold front has set record lows in several spots, such as International Falls, Minnesota, where the temperature plunged to 36 degrees below 0. In Erie, Pennsylvania, already buried under more than 65 inches of snow, a fresh round of winter storms could bring as much as 10 more inches.
And it's predicted that much of the East will be some 15 to 30 degrees lower than normal for up to 7 to 10 more days. The big chill set to test the endurance of hundreds of thousands of revelers who will pile into New York's Times Square to ring in the new year Sunday night.
