>> The Miami Marlins Jose Fernandez dead at the age of 24. The baseball team, confirming their starting pitcher was killed in a boating accident really Sunday morning, tweeting that the organization is devastated by the tragic loss. According to authorities, Fernandez and two other were in a boat along Miami beach.
Officials received a call about a possible accident around 3 AM. And upon arrival, found an over turned vessel that had apparently crashed into the rocks. Three bodies were found at the scene.>> It does appear that speed was involved, due to the impact and the severity of it.
It does appear to be that they were coming at full speed. When they encountered the jetty and the accident happened. There is no indication of alcohol or any type of illegal drugs involved. Right now the bodies are at our medical examiner's office and the autopsy will determine that.
>> Fernandez, who defected from his native Cuba when he was 15 was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 2013 and played two full seasons with the Marlins. His next two season were cut short because of Tommy John surgery. But he returned to form this year notching 16 wins and 253 strike-outs, second best in the league.
The Marlins who were set to play the Atlanta Braves on Sunday canceled the game out of respect.
