>> Google, hoping for an iPhone killer, or at the very least a viable competitor. The tech giant is unveiling a new line of hardware products in San Francisco Tuesday. Its most hotly anticipated offering, Google's own new line of smartphones. Reuters' tech editor, Jonathan Weber.>> So this is really an effort to kinda create a new high-end smartphone brand that's more closely associated with Google.
It's built to Google specs and we really get everything possible out of the Android operating system.>> Google's Android system dominates the smartphone world. Outpacing Apple's iOS globally, but mostly through phones by other companies like LG, Samsung, and the big Chinese smartphone makers. So will the tech giant be trying to take the reins on hardware?
According to reports, the new brand of smartphones will be called Pixel in hopes that it does better than the Nexus line it's likely to replace. Other hardware that could be getting a push, Google Home, a possible rival to Amazon's Echo and its virtual reality head set Daydream. Both of which were unveiled at the Google developer's conference earlier this year.
