>> The suspect in a deadly attack at a shopping mall in Washington state on Monday charged with five counts of first -degree premeditated murder. 20-year-old Arcan Cetin appeared briefly at the Skagit County District Court. According to court documents, Cetin told detectives who interviewed him that he quote, did bring the rifle into Macy's and shot all five victims, but there's still no motive for the shootings.
Reuters reporter Thomas James was at the court.>> Cetin, when he entered the courtroom, was dressed in red and blue jail garbs and stared only straight ahead. Over the course of the short hearing, he appeared to speak only nine words. That was to say, yes, Your Honor, three times, as he was asked if he understood the charges against him.
>> Cetin opened fire in the cosmetics section of a Macy's department store Friday night, killing four women and a man who died later at a hospital. Victims range in age from the mid teens to the mid 90s, Cetin was taken into custody late Saturday, and was described at the time of his arrest as zombie-like.
Authorities say there's no evidence the shooting was an act of terrorism, but they have not ruled out the possibility. They say Cetin was born in Turkey, but was in the United States as a legal Permanent resident. Cetin has a criminal record that includes three domestic violence charges, in which his step father was the victim.
