>> The US Justice Department on Wednesday saying it has charged NSA contractor Harold Thomas Martin, for stealing highly classified computer source code, which was developed to hack into the networks of Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and other US adversaries. Martin, who lives in Maryland, was arrested in late August, and worked for the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, the same firm former contractor Edward Snowden worked for.
But the materials stolen in this latest incident are different from what Snowden leaked in 2013. The Justice Department says if Martin is convicted, he faces ten years in prison for theft of government property, and one year for removal of classified materials. The FBI is now investigating whether Martin disclosed the classified documents, which the DOJ says were quote, critical to a wide variety of national security issues, and would reveal quote, sensitive sources, methods and capabilities.
This is a breaking story that we will be updating as more information comes forward.
