>> Let me start by saying words matter->> Final ratings numbers Tuesday confirming the Clinton-Trump face off is officially the most watched televised presidential debate of all time. The political slugfest was seen by an average of 84 million viewers across 13 major networks according to Nielsen. That breaks the record set in 1980 by candidates Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
In the end, however, the Clinton Trump duel fell shy of outsized expectations. Some media watchers predicted it to match or exceed the more than 100 million who regularly tune in for the Superbowl, the top-rated TV event of the year. The dueling candidates did beat another grid iron favorite Monday night football on ESPN.
Millions more watch the debate on digital streaming sites.
